Summer is round the corner, and although many things are up in the air at the moment, that doesn’t mean your hair can’t look fabulous!
Hopefully the holidays, BBQs, summer raves, festivals and garden parties will still be going ahead. We've all got so much to look forward to and want to look our best. However, sometimes a big bouncy curly blow-dry just isn’t the most suitable hairdo for the occasion.
1) Half up half down
The half up half down hairstyle is a great way to wear your hair down without it blowing in your face and getting stuck in your lipgloss every two minutes! Simply use a comb to separate the top and bottom sections of your hair. Then give the top half a bit of a backcomb to give it some volume. You can either tie the top section up with a hair tie or even better use a clip to avoid damage.
2) French plaits
French plaits are a godsend for sweaty festivals and raves. Not only do they look fab but they’re so practical! The damage to your hair is very minimal and you can leave them in for days. Not everyone has the skills to do them, but there’s plenty of tutorials on YouTube so now is the time to learn. I’ve even trained my boyfriend to do mine for me in exchange for a massage or two!
3) Beachy waves
Effortless waves are the perfect look for summer and are completely non damaging to your hair. I find putting your hair in French plaits when it’s still damp works the best, then when they have dried and start to look a bit scruffy after a day or so, take them out and you will be left with beachy waves to die for.
4) Scruffy bun
The scruffy bun is my go to hairstyle when I can’t be bothered - I find the scruffier the better. Dry shampoo seems to make it stay in, so I usually put my hair in a scruffy bun when it’s due to be washed. Spruce the roots of your hair with dry shampoo, wipe off the excess with a towel, gently backcomb your hair at the roots then play with it until you get your desired look. Finally fix it in place with a large clip on top of your head. Voila!
5) Low bun
The last summer style is a low bun. It’s super simple but looks really cute and keeps your hair out of your face. Once again start with a spruce of dry shampoo and a little backcomb, then gather your hair at the back of your neck (or to one side if you fancy something a bit different) twist then either tie it in a bobble or use a clip to keep your bun intact. Depending on how short your hair is, you might need to use a few kirby grips to pin back the short hair that won’t fit in the bobble.
